We did it, we made it to Toronto Pride 2017.

Ashton Deroy Writes: Thanks to the help of Melissa, Stephanie and anyone who showed up to Seneca Pride meetings. We did it guys we got to march in the Toronto Pride Parade!

This was the climax of a year of our vice president and President’s planning and because of this, we were able to promote Seneca’s culture of acceptance, education, and diversity.

At this event, I was handing out flyers with some other people to promote our group within Seneca College. This is why promotion is one of the most fun methods of Marketing guys

My favorite part of participating with Seneca in the parade was, of course, getting my free black T-Shirt. Stephanie did a great job designing these and I love to collect gay shirts so thank you so much!

I had to say as a gay man from a bit of a crappy past. Marching in the Gay Pride Parade in Toronto was a dream come true and I am so happy to be able to say I have done this with my college now. Since being out I have done gay Pride events in Belleville, Kingston, and Toronto.

Did the drama of Toronto Pride interfere with my fun? No, because Pride is a cultural celebration, not a political or business drama. Sometimes organizations want to get in the way of that or preach the wrong message but you just have to continue to show up and relay your own message of acceptance and hope eventually you will be heard.

Speaking apart from Seneca Pride, I Ashton Deroy would like the OPP to have a feature in next year’s Toronto Pride!

Ashton Writes: I just wanted to add Stephanie & Melissa’s post. Yes we want the Seneca Pride people who are comfortable with it to join us at the Pride Parade. We also want to encourage people to keep in touch over the summer time so here is some stuff we have going on.

Get in contact with Melissa or Stephanie to join that group. Links to their Facebook profiles in their pictures.

Also thank you to Stephanie who has for now taken care of the domain name change on the website. It was driving me crazy having the wrong name on the website but now our communications are much more unified. If you want to communicate anything on the website feel free to contact either Stephanie or Melissa now. They have both been trained on putting together blog posts & managing the website.

If you are at Seneca King Campus, get in touch with Cleo Phil who will help you over there. I want to unify the Pride groups more in the fall. I will look to work with Cleo more on that in the future.

LGBTQ+ Fitness

LGBTQ Fitness

Ashton Deroy Writes: I understand some of Seneca’s LGBTQ+ community’s reluctance to use the fitness centre at times. 4:00pm to 7:00pm I am in the gym Seneca Newnham campus if you want to work out with a friend to feel safe, unjudged and etc. I attend the kickboxing classes on Tuesday.

The best thing this group can do for Seneca College is make the LGBTQ+ community feel safe and welcome to access all parts of the school. I want to do my part to help with that as an LGBTQ+ person who uses the gym frequently.

Email Ashton Deroy at and I will know to look out for you at the gym. 🙂

Managing Communications Update

Managing Communications.png

Ashton Deroy says “So on free projects I don’t like it when too many people get involved with creating and managing channels, because the quicker they make them. The quicker they abandon them. So what if we get contacts through these channels? This is why I would like all of our communications to be managed by me moving forward. As I am constantly managing the site because everything runs through my business accounts. If you want to commit 5 days a week to posting and moderating you are more then welcome to link a channel. Chances are you won’t so I’d rather take it over.”
